Keyword
A word or phrase that people type into a search engine, and that businesses target so their content appears for those searches.
A keyword is the term a person enters into a search engine — anything from a single word to a full question. Businesses choose keywords they want to be found for and create content around them.
Short-tail vs. long-tail
Short-tail keywords are broad and high-volume (“shoes”). Long-tail keywords are longer and more specific (“waterproof trail running shoes for women”). Long-tail terms have less competition and usually attract more intent-driven visitors.
Why it matters
Targeting the right keywords means showing up for searches your actual customers make — not just high-traffic terms that don’t convert.
